Integrated Pest Management
Our integrated pest management includes a broad range of methods to control pests that also minimize potential hazards to people, property, and the environment. We employ a four-tiered approach – setting action thresholds, identifying and monitoring pests, preventing pests from becoming a threat (e.g., sealing cracks and crevices), and pest control as needed.
Monitor and Identify Pests
Regular inspections to detect, and pinpoint pests, using monitoring devices like glue traps, and accurately identifying the pest species to determine the population level and decide the control needed based on action thresholds. This process prevents unnecessary pesticide use by ensuring control actions only target actual threats.
Prevention
Prevention involves minimizing conditions that attract pests by controlling access to food, water, and shelter, while minimizing environmental risks. Key preventive actions include reducing clutter, sealing pest entry points in the building's structure (like gaps around windows and pipes), maintaining sanitation by properly storing food and managing trash, fixing moisture issues from leaks, and regularly inspecting for pests.
Control
Once monitoring, identification, and action thresholds indicate that pest control is required, and preventive methods are no longer effective or available, IPM programs then evaluate the proper control method both for effectiveness and risk. Effective, less risky pest controls are chosen first, including highly targeted chemicals, such as pheromones to disrupt pest mating, or mechanical control, such as trapping.
Identification
The first, and most critical, step in any pest management program is to identify the pest correctly so that you can be sure that a problem is related to pest damage and not to some other cause. Pest control failure is most often caused by incorrect pest identification
